In a series of tweets late last night, the Oregon Independent Party suggested that Secretary of State name Urban League President and CEO Nkenge Harmon Johnson to his redistricting panel.
@OregonSoS we recommend @TrueNkenge as participant on your redistricting task force #overqualified #reformswanted
The Secretary of State responded
We would be honored to have @TrueNkenge serve on the Independent redistricting task force
While Ms. Harmon Johnson hasn’t yet accepted, it seems reasonable to assume she had previously been approached by the Independent Party about serving and showed interest.
Ms. Harmon Johnson has served as President of the Urban League of Portland since April, 2015. Previously she served as the Communications Director for Former Democratic governor John Kitzhaber, but was fired when she challenged the use of influence by First Lady Cylvia Hayes within the Kitzhaber administration.
